A southern California man confessed to a murder committed in Iowa several decades ago this week. According to reports, Jack Wendell Pursel walked into the police station in the town of Waterloo, Iowa on Wednesday and confessed to killing Richard and Goldie Huntbach in their home in 1981. The rather grisly murder in which the Huntbachs had been found tied up, gagged and shot to death had remained unsolved for more than three decades. At the time of the murder, local investigators in Waterloo had interviewed many people, including Pursel, though not enough evidence was ever collected to make an arrest in the case. Pursel, who is now 66 years old, reportedly moved to California shortly after the murder and was later arrested and convicted on two counts of oral copulation with a minor. He was sentenced to prison and later paroled in 1992. Law enforcement officials currently working on the case believe Pursel confessed simply because he wanted to clear his conscience of the murders. He is currently in police custody in the Black Hawk County Jail with bail set at $2 million and is scheduled to appear in court on May 18th. Pursel is being charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

In the world of criminal law, it often seems as though everything that can go wrong, will, and that the deck is stacked against the average defendant. However, an experienced Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney knows that good results are often won by hard work and knowing what your options are. One great example of this is our client Patrick*. Patrick was charged with Grand Theft Auto after failing to return a rental car on time. He was convicted of a misdemeanor criminal offense and placed on probation. Sometime later, Patrick was arrested on charges of felony drug possession. After being released from police custody, Patrick understandably panicked and fled the country. Because Patrick never showed up for his court appointments, bench warrants were issued for his arrest. While away from the United States, Patrick re-evaluated certain parts of his life and became drug-free. He also became a successful businessman.

Eventually, Patrick started thinking about returning to his life here in the United States. With two warrants out for his arrest, however, flying in to any U.S. airport would have meant immediate arrest and deportation. Patrick needed the help of a good Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney, so he called the offices of Kestenbaum, Eisner & Gorin, LLP. Patrick's
Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney was able to get both arrest warrants cleared so that he could safely enter the country. Once here, he still had to deal with pending criminal charges. Patrick's
Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney was able to get probation for the misdemeanor criminal offense terminated, and then helped him enter a drug treatment program under California's Proposition 36. Under this law, certain drug offenders who are charged with non-violent drug offenses may enter drug treatment programs instead of being sent to jail. The aim of these programs is to help people kick their drug habits instead of simply punishing them with incarceration. If a person successfully completes the program, then charges against them are actually dropped. Normally, programs such as the one Patrick entered take anywhere from 18 to 36 months to complete, but Patrick's
Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney was able to get his program reduced to just three months. After successfully dealing with his legal problems with the help of his
Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney, Patrick was able to find work here and continue his education.

If you are facing criminal charges, you do not have to do it alone. Call the offices of Kestenbaum, Eisner & Gorin, LLP today at 1-877-781-1570 to find a Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney to fight for you.

Garrison Arrested For Domestic Violence

Actor Lane Garrison was arrested by local law enforcement agents in Beverly Hills yesterday after an alleged domestic violence incident in which he may have violated parole. Garrison was best known for his work in the film "Shooter," as well as the popular television show "Prison Break" when in 2007 he was involved in an automobile accident in which a teen-aged girl who was a passenger in his vehicle died. Garrison was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his Land Rover into a tree. His blood alcohol level at the time is said to have been as high as 0.20%--more than double the legal limit of 0.08%. In May of 2007 Garrison was pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury and one count of providing alcohol to a minor and was sentenced to 40 months in prison. After serving roughly half of his prison sentence, Garrison was released in April of 2009. According to reports, Garrison waited for his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Mattingly, in the lobby of her Beverly Hills apartment building then got into an argument with her. Garrison allegedly slapped her and threw her cell phone into the street before walking away, possibly under the influence of alcohol. Video footage of the incident was reportedly captured on security cameras in Mattingly's building. As of this afternoon, Garrison was still in custody and bail had been set at $50,000.

An experienced Los Angeles Domestic Violence Defense Attorney knows that while Garrison's incident was caught on camera, most other domestic disputes are actually difficult to prove. Since domestic drama tends to unfold in the privacy of a home or some other similarly private place, proving what happened and who actually did what is not easy. If you have been accused of domestic violence, you need an aggressive and experienced

Former professional football player Ryan Leaf was arrested by local law enforcement agents in Montana earlier this month. Leaf, who was picked second in the 1998 National Football League draft in 1998, was reportedly arrested on one charge of burglary, as well as two charges of possession of a dangerous drug. The former quarterback was arrested just two days earlier for similar charges of burglary and criminal possession of drugs after allegedly breaking into the home of an acquaintance and stealing prescription painkillers. Leaf, unfortunately, has had multiple arrests in his past. In May of 2009, he was arrested in the state of Texas for drug-related charges. In 2010, Leaf was arrested a second time and later pleaded guilty multiple felony charges, including seven charges of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one count of delivery of a simulated controlled substance. Leaf was fined $20,000 and put on 10 years of probation. Leaf played professional football for four different teams during his career, playing in just 25 games. Leaf retired in 2001 and is considered one of the biggest flops in NFL history.

Former professional quarterback or not, theft, burglary and drug-related charges will still land you in jail, as any Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney can tell you. Under these laws, any person who is convicted of three eligible felony criminal offenses is sent to prison for life, often without the possibility of parole. If you are facing serious criminal charges, you may feel that your future is set and that nothing you can do can take away the jail or prison sentence hovering over your head, but you do have options. Call the offices of Kestenbaum, Eisner & Gorin, LLP today at 1-877-781-1570 to speak to an experienced

Former professional boxing champion Hector "Macho" Camacho was taken into police custody this week stemming from a violent incident with his son last year. Camacho surrendered himself to local law enforcement agents in answer for charges of child abuse. According to reports, the 49-year-old Camacho got into a heated argument with his two teen-aged sons on March 22, 2011 at the home of his ex-wife after he found some money missing from his wallet. The argument reportedly turned physically violent when Camacho allegedly slammed one of his sons to the ground and stomped on him. According to one of the boys, the boxer was possibly "high on drugs" at the time of the altercation. Camacho, however, insists that he is not a drug user and that he had called the local police himself before any violence occurred during the argument. No word has been given as to when Camacho is expected in court, or what he will formally be charged with.

If you are facing criminal charges because of a possible abuse situation, you need an aggressive and experienced Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney right away.

Former accountant and campaign treasurer Kinde Durkee pleaded guilty in a multi-million dollar scheme that embezzled money from several clients, including high profile politicians. Durkee had been a popular campaign treasurer for many California Democrats until investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) discovered that she had been using clients' money to pay for various expenses. Durkee admitted in a California court this past Friday that she stole as much as $7 million from various clients including California Senator Diane Feinstein to pay for things such as medical expenses for her mother, tickets to Disneyland and Dodgers baseball games, and gift cards to online websites. In one instance, Durkee took $12,000 from Senator Feinstein's account to pay her staff's wages and make the $5,500 mortgage payment on her business, which is located in the city of Burbank. While several of Durkee's former clients are attempting to sue her for repayment of the money she stole, prosecutors in the case are saying it is unlikely that the money will be repaid. The building in which Durkee housed her business was surrendered with nearly $400,000 in equity. Durkee's 401(k) account was also cashed in for a value of roughly $120,000. The Long Beach condominium Durkee shared with her husband was left untouched because it was heavily mortgaged and would not have yielded any money to provide restitution to Durkee's victims. Prosecutors in the case have recommended a prison sentence of over 11 years, though the judge presiding over the case may disregard the recommendation in favor of a 20 year sentence per charge. Durkee pleaded guilty to five counts of mail fraud.

A San Gabriel Valley man convicted of murder was sentenced to death in a Los Angeles court this week. Gabriel Ronquillo, who is also a known gang member, was convicted of two separate murders which had actually taken place five years apart. Ronquillo was convicted of fatally stabbing Gary Frausto in 2004 in what was apparently a case of mistaken identity. The Mexican Mafia had reportedly ordered a hit on Frausto's brother, Richard. Ronquillo is said to have repeatedly stabbed Gary Frausto with a knife after the man answered a knock at the door of his Whittier home. Ronquillo was quickly apprehended when his getaway car would not start. Ronquillo was also convicted of murder with special circumstances in the death of David Borunda, a rival gang member. On Father's Day in 1999, Ronquillo is said to have driven a member of his own gang to find Borunda. The unnamed gang member shot Borunda three times with a gun provided by Ronquillo while he was seated in the backseat of a car. Judge Dewey L. Falcone rejected motions for a new trial and that Ronquillo instead be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

An experienced Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney can tell you that a murder conviction can change your life. While a

Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney may be able to get your charges reduced, or even dismissed. Your
Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney can tell you that murder in the first degree is the most serious murder charge you can face, and, if convicted, typically sends a person to prison for 25 years to life. To be convicted of first degree murder, it must be proved that you intended to kill the victim, and did so with premeditation. First degree murder differs from second degree murder in that second degree murder occurs without premeditation.

If you are facing criminal charges, it may seem as though the law is an immovable, unchangeable thing that is working against you. An experienced Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney, however, knows that laws changes all the time as law makers and even the public sees the need to change them. An up-to-date
Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney can tell you that several new laws and addendums went into effect at the beginning of this year that change the body of the law, including two new laws that expand the scope of assault and battery laws that were already in place:

SB 390 amends section 241 and 243 of the penal code in relation to assault and battery of search and rescue teams. Before this law went into effect at the beginning of this year, public safety officers such as peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians were protected against assault and battery while in on duty. Effectively, if you or anyone else assaulted or unlawfully touched a public safety officer while they were on the job, this was a criminal offense punishable by fines and potential jail time. This new law expands the list of protected public safety officers to include members of search and rescue teams while on duty. Your

A man considered a suspect in a double murder case was fatally shot by law enforcement agents in a confrontation this past Wednesday. Local and federal law enforcement agents arrived at a home in La Mirada on Wednesday afternoon to serve an arrest warrant to Frank Martinez, who was 27 years old and wanted in connection with a double murder that occurred last November. Martinez was a confirmed and documented gang member and, according to police reports, had been on the run since the murders were committed. When law enforcement agents arrived to arrest Martinez, he reportedly fled the house he was in and scrambled onto the roof of a neighboring home. Once on the roof, Martinez put his hand in his pocket, as law enforcement agents believed, to arm himself with a gun. Three police officers and one agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), opened fire on Martinez, killing him. According to police reports, officers at the scene believed Martinez had fired his weapon at least once. Reports from witnesses to the scene also indicated that Martinez fired a handgun. However, reports from both the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI found that there was no evidence that Martinez was in possession of a gun at the time of his shooting. None of the officers were injured in the shooting.

As any experienced Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney can attest, law enforcement agents take their work and their personal safety very seriously in this town.

New rulings from the United States Supreme Court last month are set to change the landscape of criminal law yet again. In United States vs. Jones, the Department of Justice (DOJ), argued that law enforcement officials had the authority to install GPS tracking devices in the vehicle of any person targeted in a criminal investigation, without any accountability to our courts and without any restraints in terms of time. The court unanimously decided that the government's installation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) in a criminal suspect's vehicle does, indeed, constitute a search effort by law enforcement agents. The court also ruled that law enforcement must first obtain the proper warrant before a GPS tracking device may be installed in order to monitor or gather evidence against the suspect of an investigation. An experienced
Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney can tell you that this is big news. Under our nation's constitution and existing laws, citizens are protected against warrantless search by law enforcement agents. Privacy is a very important civil liberty that even the police must have a good reason to invade. A
Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney knows that if a person becomes a suspect in a criminal investigation, they currently must have a warrant signed by a judge before they can search your home, your car or even your body. They must also have a warrant to arrest you.

If you have been arrested for a crime, you need an experienced and aggressive Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney right away. Your attorney will go over every detail of your case with you to ensure that law enforcement officials followed proper procedure during your arrest and while gathering evidence against you. If at any point procedure was not followed, large chunks of evidence against you may be deemed unusable in court proceedings and charges against you may be reduced, and in some cases even dismissed, because the prosecution cannot effectively make its case against you.

Television producer Bruce Beresford-Redman is being ordered to stand trial in Mexico for the murder of his wife after a Mexican judge ruled this week that there was enough evidence to proceed. Beresford-Redman is accused of murdering his wife, Monica Burgos while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico in 2010. Witnesses report seeing Beresford-Redman and Burgos arguing just four days before Burgos was found dead. After an examination, Burgos' cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation. Beresford-Redman quickly became a suspect in the investigation and was asked to remain in Mexico until the investigation had finished. The producer left the country with his passport still in the possession of Mexican authorities a short time later. Beresford-Redman was returned to Mexico earlier this month. While Mexican authorities ruled that there was enough evidence for Beresford-Redman to stand trial, attorneys for the "Survivor" producer claim that the evidence was spoiled by fungus and that they have not been allowed access to interview witnesses. Attorneys for Beresford-Redman also claim that the producer was forced to make incriminating statements against himself by Mexican law enforcement agents while undergoing questioning. Beresford-Redman is still in police custody in Mexico and could face up to 30 years in a Mexican prison if convicted.

Singer Robin Thicke was arrested for drug possession in New York City this past week. According to reports from local law enforcement agents, Thicke was spotted by a police officer sitting in a Cadillac Escalade on a city street smoking a marijuana joint. The R&B singer was arrested immediately and a small amount of marijuana was found either on him or in his vehicle. There was reportedly passenger in the vehicle with Thicke, but that person was not arrested. Thicke, who has released five studio albums, is the son of "Growing Pains" actor Alan Thicke and singer Gloria Loring. The 34-year-old has written and produced songs for several other artists, including Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera and Usher, and has a son with his wife, actress Paula Patton.

Local law enforcement agents investigating Pinkberry co-founder Young Lee found multiple illegal firearms in the entrepreneur's possession this past week. Lee and another individual reportedly chased down a homeless man who approached his vehicle at a downtown freeway off ramp with a tire iron and beat him on June 15, 2011. The victim of the beating was hospitalized for treatment of his injuries. Law enforcement agents arrested Lee for assault last month after tracking him down on a flight from Korea to Los Angeles International Airport. According to reports, investigators found a Colt .45 as well as a Para Ordnance Brand .45 in Lee's possession. It is unclear if police found the handguns in Lee's home or in one of his three luxury cars. What is clear, however, is that Lee had been barred from owning firearms because of a 2001 drug-related felony criminal conviction. According to court documents, Lee had also previously been convicted of misdemeanor firearm possession. Lee was charged with assault and could face up to seven years in prison if convicted. The weapons found in his possession could become an additional felony criminal charge for him.
